Sandusky County: Pedestrian Fatality Involving a Train
Sandusky County, OH | A tragic incident occurred where a pedestrian was fatally struck by a train.
FREMONT – A man was fatally struck by a train in downtown Fremont on Monday night, marking the second train-pedestrian collision in the city this year.
The Fremont Police Department identified the man as Mark Traver, 55, who was walking on the train tracks late on June 30. The Norfolk Southern Police Department notified Fremont police at 11:06 p.m. after finding Traver beneath the southbound train that hit him. Despite attempts at lifesaving measures, they were unsuccessful.
Traver was walking on the tracks along the west side of the Sandusky River and was struck approximately 250 feet north of State Street.
This type of incident often involves complex investigations by local law enforcement and railroad authorities to determine factors like the pedestrian’s presence on or near the tracks and any contributing circumstances, such as visibility or crossing signals.
Sandusky County, known for its rural and industrial areas, has rail lines that intersect with pedestrian pathways, which can pose safety risks. Authorities are likely working to provide clarity on this incident, and further updates may be available through the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s crash reporting system or local news outlets.
