BUCYRUS, Ohio (WSYX) — A train derailment in Bucyrus on Sunday night prompted an evacuation request for residents living within one mile of the crash site as emergency crews worked amid concerns about a possible hazardous materials leak.
The derailment happened around 8:40 p.m. in the area of Whetstone Street and Auto Avenue in Crawford County, according to police The Bucyrus Police Department said residents within 1 mile of the derailment are urged to evacuate the area until further notice.
Authorities warned there may be a tanker car leaking hydrochloric acid and said there is a possibility for explosion.
Emergency crews are on scene working to mitigate the situation, and residents were urged to avoid the area.
