LIMA — Two Lima men accused of trafficking cocaine and a Perrysburg man accused of drug possession and tampering with evidence pleaded not guilty Friday, Oct. 23, in Allen County Common Pleas Court.
The men were among 28 defendants recently indicted by an Allen County grand jury who were arraigned Friday, The Lima News reported. At least 15 of the 28 faced drug-related charges, most of them possession counts.
The trafficking cases
Todd Wilson, 52, of Lima, is charged with four counts of trafficking in cocaine and one count of possession of cocaine.
Carlton Thomas, 39, of Lima, is charged with three counts of trafficking in cocaine and two counts of having weapons while under disability. Ohio law bars people under indictment or with certain prior convictions from having firearms (see ORC 2923.13).
Allen County jail records show Thomas was booked Oct. 20 on charges filed by the Allen County Sheriff’s Office. The jail’s booking record lists the cocaine trafficking charges at between 5 and 10 grams. Bond was set at $50,000 cash, and the record shows bond was posted and Thomas was released Friday afternoon. Perrysburg man charged
Mark Osborne, 52, of Perrysburg, is charged with one count of aggravated possession of drugs and one count of tampering with evidence.
What the charges mean
Drug trafficking is defined in Ohio Revised Code 2925.03, and the felony level depends largely on the drug and the amount involved. Aggravated possession covers Schedule I and II drugs, such as methamphetamine, that do not have their own separate offense category (cocaine, heroin and fentanyl do), under ORC 2925.11. Tampering with evidence, under ORC 2921.12, is a third-degree felony.
The Lima News report did not list the judge or the next court dates.
Everyone named in this article is charged and presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. An indictment is a formal charge, not a finding of guilt.
