FINDLAY, Ohio — Dense fog moved into Hancock County on Friday morning, Oct. 23, and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office is urging drivers to take it slow.
“Dense fog has moved into the area at this time,” the sheriff’s office said in a public safety alert posted on its Facebook page shortly after 9 a.m.
What the sheriff’s office recommends
- Drive with caution and reduce your speed.
- Use low-beam headlights or fog lights, not high beams.
- Increase your following distance.
What the National Weather Service says
The National Weather Service in Cleveland issued a special weather statement early Friday saying patchy dense fog had developed across Northwest Ohio, including neighboring Wood and Sandusky counties, with visibility dropping to a quarter mile or less in spots. Forecasters warned that visibility can change quickly over short distances and said they expected quick improvement by about 10 a.m.
The weather service’s morning forecast discussion said the fog and low clouds should clear out late this morning, giving way to a sunny day with a high near 68 in the Findlay area. Patchy fog could return late tonight, mainly after 5 a.m. Saturday, and forecasters said periods of overnight dense fog are possible through the weekend, along with frost on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
No fog advisory was in effect for Hancock County as of about 9:30 a.m., according to the weather service.
Drivers heading to work or school this morning, including on Interstate 75 and the rural roads between Findlay and Fostoria, should allow extra time. Current road conditions are available from the Ohio Department of Transportation’s OHGO site.
