TOLEDO — A Toledo man accused of firing six shots at a police officer at the end of a high-speed chase in January has pleaded no contest to eight felony charges, the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office said Tuesday, Oct. 20, according to WTOL 11.
Henry Goodlow, 37, entered the plea to six counts of felonious assault, one count of having weapons while under disability and one count of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer. The first felonious assault count carries a seven-year firearm specification and a repeat violent offender specification that could add one to 10 years. Prosecutors said he could face 94 to 99 1/2 years in prison. Sentencing is set for Nov. 13 at 10 a.m.
What prosecutors say happened
According to prosecutors, on Jan. 7, 2026, Goodlow was stopped at a red light at Nebraska and Parkside avenues when a Toledo officer in a limited-marked car pulled up behind him. Goodlow drove through the red light, and the officer chased him with lights and sirens for about 10 minutes at speeds up to 100 mph.
A second officer took over the pursuit in a neighborhood. Prosecutors said Goodlow left his vehicle on South Creek Lane and ran, then fired six shots at the officer after the officer came around a blind corner near a privacy fence. The officer fired once in return. The officer was not hit and later found Goodlow hiding in bushes with the gun nearby, prosecutors said.
“Firing six shots at a police officer shows a complete disregard for human life,” Lucas County Prosecuting Attorney Julia R. Bates said.
Under the plea deal, the .45-caliber pistol recovered at the scene will be destroyed. Goodlow was originally indicted on charges that included attempted murder.
Goodlow has not yet been sentenced. Under Ohio law, a no contest plea is not an admission of guilt, though a judge can find a defendant guilty based on the facts presented. Information on the case is available from the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office.
