TOLEDO — Four rail cars came off the tracks in a train derailment on East Manhattan Boulevard in north Toledo late Friday afternoon, Oct. 23, and no one was hurt, according to Toledo Fire and Rescue.
The derailment happened in the 3000 block of Manhattan Boulevard, near the tracks by Detwiler Ditch. Toledo police and fire crews were called shortly after 4 p.m., WTOL 11 reported, and East Manhattan Boulevard was shut down in both directions at the crossing.
The train’s conductor got off safely, a Toledo Fire and Rescue spokesperson told 13 Action News (WTVG). The spokesperson said fire crews were working to find out what was inside the four affected cars.
A Toledo police officer at the scene told 13 Action News that no chemicals were spilled. Police expect to keep part of the tracks closed for some time. It’s not clear when the crossing will reopen; 13 Action News reported that clearing a similar derailment in the past took about two days.
