Fostoria Parent Alleges Negligence at YMCA Wonderland Enrichment Center Daycare After Toddler’s Severe Head Injury

FOSTORIA, Ohio — A local parent is speaking out anonymously about a serious incident at the Wonderland Enrichment Center daycare located at the Fostoria YMCA, claiming negligence and inadequate supervision led to her 2-year-old daughter sustaining a severe head injury requiring staples.
The parent, who wished to remain anonymous to protect her family while a lawsuit is ongoing, shared details of the June 17 incident with the Free Press. She provided a detailed account via messages and expressed hope that public awareness could prevent similar situations for other children.
According to the parent, the injury occurred when her daughter was standing on a rocking toy not intended for standing. The toy had been pushed against the building. Staff reportedly observed the child standing on the toy for approximately 3–5 minutes before she fell and struck her head on the building, causing a significant laceration.
The parent stated that two supervising adults, identified as Kenna and Maria, were responsible for oversight at the time. She also named daycare director Hannah Wayne and an individual named Morgan, who allegedly provided first aid.
A major point of concern raised by the parent was the response time. She claimed that staff initially downplayed the injury when they called her, describing it as a head bump with bleeding that had been controlled, and requested someone pick up the child. At the time, the parent was about 30 minutes away at a doctor’s appointment with her other child. She instructed staff to call an ambulance due to the head wound, but said they delayed, consulting with leadership because the director was on vacation. EMS was reportedly called approximately 22 minutes after the fall.
“They tried to downplay the severity of my daughter’s injuries,” the parent said in the messages. “Had they followed protocol with the severity of her injuries, things could have played out differently.”
The parent further alleged that the daycare changed their account of events multiple times and delayed providing an official incident report. She said she received the report on June 30 — nearly two weeks after the incident on June 17 — only after repeated requests and showing up in person. She claims the report contained inaccuracies.
The parent emphasized that she is pursuing legal action not for personal financial gain, but to hold the facility accountable and protect other children. Any settlement for her daughter would go into a trust inaccessible until age 18. She acknowledged the ongoing lawsuit and said she has maintained a detailed paper trail since the beginning.
Names of involved staff provided by the parent: supervising adults Kenna and Maria, director Hannah Wayne, and Morgan (first aid).
