The Wood County jail celebrated an important milestone this morning with its first-ever IGNITE group graduation ceremony. The event recognized a group of inmates who completed the Peer-to-Peer Support Group class, an innovative program designed to foster mental health awareness, personal growth, and mutual encouragement among participants.
The class is facilitated by NAMI Wood County, whose partnership has been crucial in bringing evidence-based mental health education and peer support directly into the jail setting. Through guided conversations, shared experiences, and structured support, participants learn practical tools to manage their mental health and to support one another on the path to recovery and stability.
Leaders emphasized that IGNITE’s success is the result of strong collaboration: community partners, dedicated jail staff, and the inmates who make the courageous choice to participate. Each graduate’s achievement reflects hours of engagement, vulnerability, and effort to build healthier habits and outlooks.
Officials expressed deep pride in the graduates and in everyone who makes IGNITE possible, noting that these programs help prepare individuals for life after incarceration and strengthen the community as a whole. The ceremony also highlighted the support of the National Sheriffs’ Association, which continues to champion initiatives that prioritize rehabilitation, dignity, and second chances within America’s jails.
