FOSTORIA — Good Shepherd Home is applying for a state low-income housing grant to build an affordable senior apartment building on Grape Street, and it has asked Fostoria City Council to vacate a street there to make room, the Advertiser-Tribune reported from council’s meeting Tuesday, Oct. 20.
Chris Widman of Good Shepherd Home told council the building would give Fostoria seniors up to 45 one- or two-bedroom independent living apartments, according to the newspaper. Widman said the grant is the same type that helped pay for Wesley Commons, an affordable housing complex in Fostoria.
Widman asked that a street running across Grape Street be vacated, the Advertiser-Tribune reported. The report did not name the street or say when council might vote on the request. Vacating a street means the city gives up the public right-of-way so the land can be used for another purpose. The name of the state grant program and the project’s cost were not given in the report.
Other council business
- Tree worker: Council adopted Ordinance No. 2026-69, creating a Seasonal Tree Maintenance Worker position for the city.
- 2027 budget: Council will discuss next year’s budget at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, with the regular council meeting right after.
- Next meeting moved: The next regular meeting will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, one day later than usual so it does not fall on Election Day, Nov. 3.
Early voting reminder
During public comment, Deb Tyson of Fostoria asked the city to help make sure residents know about the Nov. 3 election. She noted early voting is already underway and that Fostoria voters cast early ballots at the board of elections in their county: Seneca County on Washington Street in downtown Tiffin, Wood County at Courthouse Square in Bowling Green, and Hancock County on East Lincoln Street in Findlay.
Council agendas and meeting documents are posted in the city’s online Agenda Center.
