FOSTORIA — James Donald “Jim” Dieter, 71, a Fostoria native who made his home in Delphi, Indiana, died at home on Monday, Oct. 19, 2026.

Dieter was born in Fostoria in 1955 and graduated from Fostoria High School in 1973. He worked as a trim carpenter and home remodeler until semi-retiring in 2018. He owned Delphi Music Center for several years, volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and, more recently, designed custom 3D-printed tools used by machinists around the world.

Family members described him as principled and happiest when building things with his hands. He enjoyed woodworking, fly fishing, taking his dogs to the river and playing guitar and many other instruments.

He is survived by his wife, Lori, of Delphi; his mother, of Fostoria; his children and stepdaughter; a sister and a brother; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services

No services will be held at this time. The family suggests memorial donations to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or Kitten Cove in Brookston, Indiana.

Because his death occurred in Indiana, records are handled by the Indiana Department of Health vital records office.

The full obituary and online guestbook are available at The Review Times on Legacy.com.

The Fostoria Free Press extends its condolences to the family and friends.
