TOLEDO — A 19-year-old man is being held on a $250,000 bond after Toledo police say a man was shot in north Toledo Thursday evening and the suspect then barricaded himself inside an apartment building, prompting a SWAT response.
Davalon Woodson-Spivey, 19, is charged with one count of felonious assault, according to WTOL 11 and 13abc (WTVG).
What police say happened
Officers were called to a report of a person shot near New York Avenue and Erie Street just before 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, police told 13abc. Officers found a man with at least one gunshot wound and gave him first aid before he was taken to a hospital. Police described his injuries as serious.
According to a court affidavit cited by WTOL, the man told investigators he saw the suspect pull a gun from his waistband, and that after he turned around he felt he had been shot and heard gunshots.
Police said the suspect ran to the North Point Commons apartments in the 2900 block of North Summit Street and barricaded himself inside. SWAT units were called in, and Woodson-Spivey was taken into custody after negotiations a little before 7 p.m., 13abc reported.
In court Friday
Lucas County jail records confirm the arrest. The Lucas County Corrections Center booking summary lists Woodson-Spivey as booked into the jail at 11:45 p.m. Thursday on a Toledo Municipal Court felonious assault charge, with the Toledo Police Department as the arresting agency.
Woodson-Spivey appeared in Toledo Municipal Court on Friday, Oct. 16, where a judge set bond at $250,000, according to both stations. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Oct. 23. Court records and schedules are available through Toledo Municipal Court.
Police have not said what led up to the shooting, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact the Toledo Police Department.
This is a developing story and may be updated as more information is released.
All charges are allegations; the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
