FREMONT – Drivers in Sandusky County can expect to see more deputies on the roads this month. The Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office said it will run extra traffic patrols throughout November 2026 as the Thanksgiving holiday travel season approaches.

The sheriff’s office said overtime shifts will be scheduled to promote safety among drivers and to raise awareness of other traffic on the roadways. Deputies assigned to the overtime details will work a variety of shifts during the month and will enforce all traffic laws.

The sheriff’s office said the patrols will put special emphasis on impaired driving, speeding, seat belt violations and distracted driving.

The overtime is paid for through a grant the sheriff’s office received from the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services Traffic Safety Section, according to the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office announcement, posted Nov. 4.

The Thanksgiving period is traditionally one of the busiest travel stretches of the year on Ohio roads. Drivers are reminded to buckle up, put the phone down, obey posted speed limits and plan a sober ride home. Information on Sandusky County government offices, including the sheriff, is available on the Sandusky County website, and traffic safety grant programs are overseen by the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services.
