Trump Vows 10% Global Tariff by Executive Order After Supreme Court Defeat
![]()
President Donald Trump said Friday he will sign an executive order imposing a new 10% “global tariff” on imports from all countries, just hours after the Supreme Court struck down his earlier use of emergency powers to levy broad “reciprocal” tariffs. The new measure, which Trump says will be applied on top of existing tariffs that remain in place, is framed by the administration as a way to quickly rebuild its trade barrier strategy within a different section of federal trade law. The move follows a major legal defeat in which the Court ruled that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act could not be used as the basis for the sweeping tariffs Trump imposed in 2025.
