WAUSEON — A 61-year-old Wauseon man was killed early Wednesday, Oct. 21, in a two-vehicle crash in thick fog in Fulton County, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
Gregory Garrow was driving a sedan east on County Road D near County Road 13 at about 6:19 a.m. when he tried to pass a semi and hit a westbound pickup truck, according to the patrol, WTOL 11 reported. Garrow died at the scene.
The pickup driver, a 35-year-old Sylvania man, was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, the patrol said.
Fog, not the Toledo leak
A patrol sergeant said the crash is “not being investigated as attributed to the hazmat incident in any way,” referring to the chemical leak in north Toledo that spread haze across the region. “At this time, the conditions that contributed to the crash were fog in general that came through the area and often comes around this time of year,” the sergeant said.
The patrol reminded drivers to watch for hazardous weather. In fog, slow down, use low-beam headlights, leave extra following distance and avoid passing when you cannot clearly see oncoming traffic. Crash reports and safety information are available from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash remains under investigation.
