PUTNAM COUNTY | West Millgrove Driver, Leipsic Passenger Killed When SUV Crosses Center, Hits Semi on SR 613

PUTNAM COUNTY — Two men from northwest Ohio were killed Tuesday morning, Oct. 20, when the SUV they were riding in crossed the center line on State Route 613 in Van Buren Township and collided head-on with a semi, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers from the patrol’s Lima Post were called to the crash at about 8:18 a.m.

What the patrol says happened

According to the patrol’s release, Lyle St. Clair Jr., 45, of West Millgrove in Wood County, was driving a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo west on Route 613. Christopher Clements, 47, of Findlay, was headed east in a 2025 Freightliner Cascadia semi.

The patrol says St. Clair’s Jeep went left of center and struck the semi head-on. St. Clair and his passenger, Adam L. Koebel, 43, of Leipsic, were pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol’s release did not report any injuries to Clements.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Leipsic Fire Department, Putnam County EMS, Portage EMS, the Ohio Department of Transportation, the Putnam County Coroner’s Office and two towing services assisted at the scene, according to the release.

Road closed for repairs

The patrol said Route 613 would stay closed until ODOT finishes repairing the roadway. Drivers can check current closures on OHGO, ODOT’s traffic map.

The crash remains under investigation. The Highway Patrol reminded drivers not to drive distracted and to always wear a properly adjusted safety belt. More information about the patrol is available from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
