BREAKING | Toledo Fire Department Standing by for EPA After 
a “Leak” into Swawn Creek Was Discovered

Emergency crews are investigating a possible leak at Swan Creek Metropark in south Toledo after an unknown substance was found flowing into the creek Tuesday morning.

Metroparks Toledo public relations director Scott Carpenter said the material appears to be entering Swan Creek from a roadside ditch near Glendale Avenue, outside the park’s boundaries, before moving into the waterway.

Toledo Fire and Rescue responded to the scene around 9:15 a.m. and will remain on site until the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency arrives to take over the environmental assessment, according to Carpenter.

Officials say the source of the leak is not within the metropark itself, but they have not yet identified what the substance is. It is not yet clear whether areas beyond the immediate site have been affected.

Authorities expect to release more details once the EPA completes its initial review. This remains a developing situation, and local officials are asking the public to monitor updates from WTOL 11 as more information becomes available.
