FOSTORIA- Whether your family just moved to town or your youngest is starting kindergarten, enrolling in Fostoria City Schools starts online and ends with a few documents. Here is a guide based on the district’s website and posted board policy.
Who to call
The Fostoria City Schools central office is at 1001 Park Ave. Numbers listed by the district:
- Central office: 419-435-8163
- Fostoria Junior/Senior High School: 419-436-4110
- Fostoria Elementary: 419-436-4125
- Transportation: 419-436-4105
- Food service: 419-436-4114
How to enroll
The district’s enrollment page sends new families to FinalForms, the online system the district uses for enrollment and student forms. The district’s EMIS coordinator and enrollment specialist both work out of the central office at 419-435-8163 and can help if you get stuck or do not have internet at home. The Kaubisch Public Library at 205 Perry St. has public computers if you need one.
The district’s board policy on entrance requirements lists what to bring when a child enters school for the first time:
- A birth certificate or another acceptable proof of age
- A certified copy of any custody order, if one applies
- Proof of immunizations, or a waiver the law allows
The same policy says kindergarten and first grade students get a screening, which the district pays for. Age cutoffs for kindergarten and first grade are also set in policy and state law. Call the enrollment office to confirm the current cutoff before you plan.
Families who will homeschool can find the home education notification form on the district’s enrollment page. The district’s parent and student forms page has other forms.
Help for families in transition
The district’s website has a page on the federal McKinney-Vento program, which protects the schooling of children whose families lose stable housing. If your family is doubled up with relatives, in a motel or in a shelter, tell the enrollment office. The district can explain what support is available, so do not let a housing problem keep a child home from school.
