Deputies responded at 8:08 p.m. EST to State Route 420 between State Route 163 and Truman Road, the outlets reported.
According to the preliminary investigation described in those reports, Michael Ivorsen, 56, of Jordan, Minnesota, drove around road-closure signs and entered an inactive construction zone on southbound State Route 420. WTOL reported that he was driving a 2019 semi-tractor without a trailer; BG Independent News identified it as a Volvo.
The semi-tractor was in the left lane when it struck a Caterpillar excavator parked to protect a cut across the roadway. It then left the roadway on the left side and came to rest in the median, the reports said.
Investigators said Ivorsen did not appear to have been wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene. Impairment is not suspected as a contributing factor, according to the reports.
BG Independent News reported that Pemberville Fire and EMS, Troy Township Fire and EMS and Or’s Towing assisted, and representatives of the Ohio Department of Transportation responded to assess the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Wood County Sheriff’s Office.
