FINDLAY — After a dip on this year’s state report card, Findlay City Schools leaders say new staff and support for teachers are aimed at pushing the district’s ratings back up, The Courier reported.
The district earned 3 stars overall on the 2026 Ohio School Report Card, down from 3.5 stars last year. Both ratings mean the district “meets state standards.”
How the components changed
- Achievement: 3 stars (same as last year)
- Early Literacy: 2 stars (same)
- Graduation: 4 stars (same)
- Gap Closing: 3 stars (down from 4)
- Progress: 2 stars (down from 3)
- College, Career, Workforce and Military Readiness: 3 stars (up from 2)
Report cards for every Ohio district are posted by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce on the Ohio School Report Cards website.
Rebuilding after cuts
Superintendent Andy Hatton said earlier that keeping the “meets standards” rating was “no easy task” after $6 million in operating cuts last year. The district began receiving money this spring from the earned income tax voters approved in May 2025, and announced about 20 added teaching and support positions for 2026-27, plus instructional coaches and five leadership posts.
Assistant Superintendent Katie Abbott told the school board Monday, Oct. 19, that coaches are now planning and modeling lessons with teachers, and that each of the district’s 36 first-year teachers has a one-on-one mentor. “This year looks much different than it did last year,” she said.
“Three stars is not good enough on the state report card,” Hatton said. “Now the goal is always five stars across the board, in every category.”
