FINDLAY — A Findlay nonprofit is working to make sure hundreds of children in Hancock County and nearby counties have a new coat this winter.
Christian Clearing House is again partnering with Operation Warm to give brand-new winter coats to children from families who qualify, WTOL 11 reported Tuesday, Oct. 20.
Director Tammy Stahl said the effort came through the faith-based initiative at the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, which invited the clearing house to take part three years ago. Coats can go to children in Hancock County or surrounding counties, she said.
About halfway through the supply
Distribution started again in late September, and about 250 coats have been handed out so far. Stahl said the group gave out almost 500 coats last year and is on track to do the same this year. Sizes run from children’s 2T to adult extra-large in a range of colors. Community donations also provide hats and gloves.
“Things like a winter coat can be really impactful, and coats don’t last years and years and years. They grow out of them quickly,” Stahl said, pointing to high food and utility prices.
How to get a coat
- Household income must be at or below 200% of the federal poverty level.
- A parent must sign the required TANF form. Stahl said another relative, such as a grandparent, can pick up the coat if the form is completed.
- Coats are available at Christian Clearing House on North Blanchard Street in Findlay from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday.
More about the national program is at Operation Warm.
