Local Beekeeper Ends 2026 Honeybee Removal Season “Let them bee over winter”
![]()
THE MINDFUL BEEKEEPER LLC- Josh Tolento, owner, said: This year my team and I rescued 25+ honeybee colonies around NW Ohio and S Michigan. Last winter was rough, I lost 2 hives to starvation and another from disease. On the flip side, as of today MBK’s hives are looking strong as winter approaches. Honey has been harvested and frames ready for the spinner. Below are a couple common questions that I am asked:
What do I do in the Winter Offseason?
The offseason is always bitter sweet for me since I cant interact with the bees like I do on a daily basis during the summer. I listen to each hive weekly using a stethoscope and currently working on an affordable design for audio monitoring over internet (Audio-over-IP). Although most of my time is spent roasting coffee & infusing honey; have you tried my coffee infused honey yet? Check it out on CafeTolento.com.
How many times have I been stung?
I don’t keep count. This year I avoided face stings unlike multiple occasions in 2025 (learn from mistakes.) But if I had to guess I would say anywhere from 25-50 times per year. I don’t mind the sting because the venom calms nerve pain if I get stung in the back or neck. Look into Apitherapy, it works for me.
