FREMONT — Households in Seneca, Sandusky, Wood and Ottawa counties that are struggling to keep the heat on can apply for help through Great Lakes Community Action Partnership’s Winter Crisis Program, which runs Nov. 1, 2026, through March 31, 2027.
Appointments open Wednesday, Oct. 28, the agency said.
“Just as GLCAP helped households in the summer months, the Winter Crisis Program will be here for residents in the cold-weather months to ensure that households have heat during the season,” GLCAP Energy Assistance Specialist Cortney Sturgill said.
Who the program helps
According to GLCAP, the program serves households that:
- are at risk of having a utility shut off,
- already have disconnected utilities,
- need to establish or transfer new service, or
- have 25% or less of their supply of bulk fuel, such as fuel oil or propane.
Income limits
Households of up to seven people must have income at or below 175% of the federal poverty guidelines. GLCAP gives these examples: $27,930 a year for a household of one and $57,750 for a family of four.
Households with eight or more members must have income at or below 60% of the state median income.
How to make an appointment
Starting Oct. 28, appointments can be made online at www.glcap.org/winterheating or by calling 419-463-2242.
GLCAP said its Summer Crisis Program, which just ended, helped nearly 750 households in the four counties with utility bills, air conditioning repairs, and air conditioners or fans.
