TOLEDO Teacher fired after using a racial slur in a Facebook thread about Charlie Kirk
A teacher at a local early learning center has been fired after using a racial slur in a Facebook group.
Bryanna Madsen, who worked at Over the Rainbow Early Learning Center in Springfield Township, was dismissed Monday after multiple people reported that she used a racist term in a Toledo‑area Facebook group. The slur appeared in a comment thread under a meme she shared of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris criticizing immigration.
In the thread, commenter Aiyana Hutchen replied with a screenshot of Madsen’s profile photo labeled “We are Charlie Kirk” with laughing emojis. Madsen shot back that she was not Charlie Kirk and used a racial slur she claimed he wouldn’t say. In another reply, Madsen posted a picture of a chimpanzee.
Hutchen said the exchange made her fearful about Madsen’s role working with Black children, though she doubted the center would respond. She said her main concern was that someone with those views should not be caring for children, who “deserve love and a caring environment” she did not believe Madsen could provide.
Facebook pages for Over the Rainbow’s Springfield Township site and another location have since been taken down, though earlier posts confirmed Madsen’s employment before their removal. Madsen declined to comment. The center confirmed her termination but offered no further details, including whether it has a social media policy.
Over the Rainbow Early Learning Center, according to its website, serves children from 6 weeks to 12 years old and operates two Toledo‑area sites, in Sylvania and Springfield Township. The incident and firing were first reported on Jan. 16, 2026, at 2:20 p.m.
