What the Utility Companies won’t tell you. At least not verbally
WHAT REALLY BURNS ME!!
Have you guys been noticing that your bills are going up? I’m sure you have and I’m also sure that you’ve noticed the annual increase in your gas bill if you have gas heat around this time of the year it goes up.
We are all used to that and we generally have the idea why the colder outside it is the more heat you’re going to generally use but there’s a few things about the money that you’re giving the gas company that they’re not telling you about.
These things are about to tell you are the main reasons why you’re gas bill is so high in the winter and these are the things they won’t tell you themselves. At least not out loud be prepared to be pissed off.
Now we all know that there is a choice when it comes to who you’re natural gas provider is going to be.
And there are a couple of choices most of which I refuse to use because in the long run you’re not paying less, you’re paying more for another company to be your supplier.
Well I thought I was doing a service to the gas company and being loyal knowing that third party suppliers are more expensive I took the offer that the gas company gave me.
They told me the name of supplier that they recommended I use which would have kept my rates pretty much the same except there was one little hiccup, the third party wasn’t a third party at all it was a company that is owned by Columbia Gas of Ohio.
That being said I’ve come to notice that my rates have been gradually going up Non-Stop for the last 8 years regardless of the season even though they told me that wouldn’t happen and since they own the third party supplier you would assume that being loyal it would give me discounts by staying with them instead of going to another company of course that didn’t happen. but I digress.
To the things that your money goes to and why your bill is so high
Now if you look in the back of your bill it gives you three or four things in a list that you pay for it’s in the detail list on a paper bill but on electric bill if you are able to get online and see your bill there you’ll come to find out that there’s a much longer list of things that you’re paying for.
They call these things riders now these riders are money that you shouldn’t have to be paying but you are.
They have three different infrastructure riders which I’m not entirely sure is a necessity in itself but for each one of those riders that you pay you also pay taxes on those payments for those riders it’s kind of a double dipping strategy that you ask me.
If you go into the electronic bill online and open up that section that explains the riders there’s another list of riders that you pay for there’s approximately a total of 10 overall and a couple of them are going to really piss you off.
So maybe you’re aware or maybe you’re not.
Were you aware that there’s a rider that you pay that they use as a reimbursement for money they spend building new offices, getting new furniture in those offices, and upgrading anything within those offices. So they charge all of this new stuff that they get for their corporate offices back to you.
Now that may not be a very big deal to you but for some it is.
How about this, Columbia gas of Ohio donates money for community rebuilds and community infrastructure. But in reality it’s not a donation because guess what they do the money that they “Donate” is in turn paid back to them bye us.
They have a specific Rider that we have to pay that covers they’re expenditures for community donations. And yet they get to claim the tax deduction.
Here’s a little more for you any expenditures that they have that have to do with any of the companies distribution of the gas going to your home including transportation and trucks the gas for those trucks any type of equipment purchase any type of anything that is used for Columbia gas of Ohio is charged back to you.
Now you might think that’s kind of normal for them to take money out of their profits for stuff like that but the problem is is they actually charge you a rider for that and your taxed on that.
Any money that they have to pay for permits fees and including taxes that they pay to the US government they charge you a rider for that so not only do you pay for everything that they need to use but you pay their taxes as well.
Now here’s the cherry on the cake. Every year on your January bill there are five extra days added to that bill did anybody know that had anybody given approval for that and it’s not set for any type of holiday scheduling or anything of that nature.
It’s just five extra days added for no known reason. But wait it gets better if you look on your bill you’ll see a graph that shows you how many days you’re charged on each billing cycle and if you look through you’ll see that you’re charged extra days on certain months and other months your charge what it’s supposed to be or one less but they don’t equal out.
They don’t equal out because there is 365 1/4 days and every year but they charge you for 367 1/4 days. No somebody please tell me what are the extra two days of the year that I’m paying gas for and they can’t explain it away by saying it’s a leap year charge because a leap years every four years so therefore I would be paying six days every four years extra that don’t exist.
Now correct me if I’m wrong the oil companies makes billions every year and the natural gas companies make just as much.
And because that’s the case I have to ask the question where do they get off charging us for every single thing they have to do and every single thing they pay.
We pay for the replacement of gas lines under the street we pay for the de and re-construction of those streets and of course we have to pay for an insurance for any of their pipelines on our property in case something goes wrong.
We pay for every government tax every state and city tax we pay for every single type of fee permit land ownership land contract and every other thing known to man that they need including their donations to other organizations they recoup every dime of that from the consumer.
I know you think this might be far fetched but all of this can be found on your bill online and if you need help finding it I’ll be more than happy to show you because this has got to stop the rich are getting richer while the middle class and poor are either staying the same or getting worse and then they want to raise the prices of the same product they’re giving us telling us that that’s just the way it’s going to be with the economy and inflation and they’re not making the profits that were projected for the fiscal year.
And last but not least
The PIPP program for the less fortunate this is set up for those who can’t afford their entire bill so they pay a fixed rate throughout the entire year every month the difference between what they pay and the consumption of their natural gas also goes back to the rest of the consumers kind of like welfare the more they use the more the taxpayer pays.
That’s right we pay for other people’s heat and the so-called losses that Columbia gas of Ohio claim that they have.
And then they have the unmitigated gall to have a program within the company that’s called a heat share so that you can share your heat with others or part of your natural gas consumption.
So along with the recent increase in cost for natural gas you’re also paying all of their costs taxes and everything else for their company and paying for the less fortunate to have their gas and reimbursing them for all of their expenditures that they can use as a tax deduction anyway.
Now don’t you feel like you should have been taken on a date before this Royal reaming.
