TIFFIN | Aqua Starts $3 Million in Tiffin Water Main Replacements; Expect Lane Restrictions and Brief Shutoffs

TIFFIN- Aqua Ohio is starting more than $3 million in water main replacements in Tiffin, and drivers and residents along two work zones should expect lane restrictions through the end of the year, the company said.

Where the work is

• Clinton Avenue (starts Oct. 26): About 3,000 feet of 6-inch cast iron main will be replaced with 8-inch ductile iron pipe, plus six new fire hydrants and 11 new valves. Work begins at Clinton Avenue and East Perry Street and moves northeast along Clinton to Steiner Street.
• Arrow Lane, Indian Lane and Gibson Street (starts Nov. 1): About 1,200 feet of 6-inch cast iron main will be replaced with new ductile iron pipe of the same size, plus two hydrants and three valves. The zone is bordered by Mohawk Street and South Washington Street.

Aqua said it moved the Clinton Avenue job up so it would not tear into the new asphalt the city plans to put down there in 2027.

“We also coordinate our replacements with planned investments from the city,” said Scott Ballenger, Aqua Ohio’s area manager, as reported by The Advertiser-Tribune.

What residents should expect

• Crews will work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Expect lane closures, parking restrictions, heavy equipment and open trenches. Drivers and pedestrians are asked to use extra caution.
• Water service will be shut off briefly near the end of each project when homes are connected to the new main. Affected customers will be notified in advance.
• Final lawn and property restoration will wait until spring, when the ground is warm enough for grass to grow.

Underground Utilities Inc. of Monroeville is doing the work. Ballenger said Aqua expects to spend $69 million across its 40 Ohio water systems.
