SWANTON – Vice President JD Vance closed out his 2026 campaign travel Monday with an election-eve rally at Toledo Express Airport in Swanton, urging northwest Ohio voters to back Republicans in the state’s top races one day before the Nov. 3 midterm election.
Vance, who grew up in Middletown, leaned on his Ohio roots in his remarks at the airport’s general aviation terminal hangar, according to the Washington Examiner, which reported the Swanton stop was his final rally of the 2026 campaign cycle.
“This state made me the man that I am today. It’s where I learned to work hard. It’s where I learned to love my country,” Vance told the crowd, the Examiner reported.
He pressed the case for Sen. Jon Husted in the U.S. Senate special election against Democrat Sherrod Brown, Vivek Ramaswamy in the governor’s race against Democrat Amy Acton, and Derek Merrin, the Republican challenging longtime Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur in Ohio’s 9th Congressional District, which includes Toledo.
“The only game in town for low taxes, for common sense, and for patriotic American values is Vivek’s party. It’s Jon’s party. It’s the Republican Party, and don’t forget it tomorrow,” Vance said, according to the Examiner.
Ramaswamy, Husted and Merrin spoke before the vice president arrived, according to a White House press pool report, which said Vance landed at Toledo Express at 12:46 p.m. Donald Trump Jr. also appeared at the rally, according to the pool report and 13 Action News coverage.
Husted has trailed Brown in public polling since June; Brown held a 2.8-point lead in the RealClearPolitics polling average heading into Election Day, the Examiner reported.
Election Day
Polls in Ohio are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, and anyone in line by 7:30 p.m. may vote. Voters must cast ballots at their assigned polling place and bring an acceptable photo ID. Polling locations can be found through the Ohio Secretary of State’s Election Day voting page.
The Fostoria Free Press first reported plans for the rally on Oct. 29.
